Caramelized Bread Pudding Delight
Ingredients:
For the Bread Pudding:
- 6 cups bread, cubed (day-old bread works best)
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp salt
For the Caramel Sauce:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup heavy cream (warm)
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Prepare the Bread Pudding:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.
- Add the cubed bread to the mixture, stirring to coat. Let it sit for about 15 minutes, allowing the bread to soak up the mixture.
- Bake the Bread Pudding:
- Pour the bread mixture into the greased baking dish.
- Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the pudding is set and the top is golden brown.
- Make the Caramel Sauce:
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar and water. Stir until the sugar dissolves, then stop stirring and let it boil until it turns a golden amber color (about 8-10 minutes).
- Remove from heat and carefully whisk in the warm heavy cream (it will bubble up). Add the butter and vanilla extract, stirring until smooth.
- Serve:
- Allow the bread pudding to cool slightly before serving. Drizzle the warm caramel sauce over individual portions.
Tips:
- For added flavor, consider mixing in raisins or nuts to the bread pudding before baking.
- Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra treat!
