Cheesy Hamburger Potato Casserole
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 3-4 large russet or Yukon gold potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or your preferred cheese)
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup (or cream of chicken)
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Cook the Ground Beef:
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion until the beef is browned and cooked through. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Drain any excess grease.
- Prepare the Sauce:
- In a bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup and milk until smooth.
- Assemble the Casserole:
- Layer half of the thinly sliced potatoes in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Season the potatoes with a little salt and pepper.
- Spread half of the cooked ground beef over the potatoes.
- Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese on top of the beef.
- Pour half of the soup mixture evenly over the cheese.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, ground beef, cheese, and soup mixture.
- Bake the Casserole:
- Cover the casserole with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 60-75 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.
- Top with Cheese:
- Remove the foil and sprinkle an additional 1/2 cup of cheese on top.
- Bake uncovered for another 10-15 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish and Serve:
- Remove from the oven and let the casserole cool slightly.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve.
