Crab Dome

Ingredients:

For the Crab Filling:

  • 1 lb lump crab meat, picked over for shells
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup green onions, chopped
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Shell:

  • 1 large round loaf of bread (like a sourdough or ciabatta)
  • Butter (for brushing)
  • Fresh herbs (for garnish, optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Crab Filling:
  • In a large bowl, combine the cream cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, and salt and pepper. Mix until smooth.
  • Gently fold in the crab meat, green onions, and cheddar cheese (if using). Set aside.
  1. Prepare the Bread Shell:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Carefully cut the top off the round loaf of bread and hollow out the inside, leaving a thick shell. Tear the removed bread into pieces for serving.
  1. Assemble the Dome:
  • Fill the hollowed bread with the crab mixture, packing it gently to fill all spaces.
  1. Bake:
  • Brush the outside of the bread with melted butter. Place the filled bread dome on a baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the bread is golden and the filling is heated through.
  1. Serve:
  • Let cool slightly before slicing into the dome. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired. Serve with the torn pieces of bread for dipping.

Tips for Success:

  • Customization: You can add ingredients like diced bell peppers, Old Bay seasoning, or hot sauce for extra flavor.
  • Storage: Leftover filling can be stored in the refrigerator for a few days, and you can use it in sandwiches or on crackers.

Enjoy your impressive and delicious Crab Dome! Perfect for gatherings and special occasions!
