Crab Dome
Ingredients:
For the Crab Filling:
- 1 lb lump crab meat, picked over for shells
- 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/2 cup green onions, chopped
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Shell:
- 1 large round loaf of bread (like a sourdough or ciabatta)
- Butter (for brushing)
- Fresh herbs (for garnish, optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Crab Filling:
- In a large bowl, combine the cream cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, and salt and pepper. Mix until smooth.
- Gently fold in the crab meat, green onions, and cheddar cheese (if using). Set aside.
- Prepare the Bread Shell:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully cut the top off the round loaf of bread and hollow out the inside, leaving a thick shell. Tear the removed bread into pieces for serving.
- Assemble the Dome:
- Fill the hollowed bread with the crab mixture, packing it gently to fill all spaces.
- Bake:
- Brush the outside of the bread with melted butter. Place the filled bread dome on a baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the bread is golden and the filling is heated through.
- Serve:
- Let cool slightly before slicing into the dome. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired. Serve with the torn pieces of bread for dipping.
Tips for Success:
- Customization: You can add ingredients like diced bell peppers, Old Bay seasoning, or hot sauce for extra flavor.
- Storage: Leftover filling can be stored in the refrigerator for a few days, and you can use it in sandwiches or on crackers.
Enjoy your impressive and delicious Crab Dome! Perfect for gatherings and special occasions!
