Crispy Fried Shrimp Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined (tails on or off, your preference)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal (optional for extra crunch)
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs or panko
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Lemon wedges, for serving
  • Tartar sauce or cocktail sauce (optional, for dipping)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Shrimp:
  • Pat shrimp dry with paper towels. Season with salt and pepper.
  1. Set Up a Breading Station:
  • In one shallow dish, mix flour, cornmeal (if using), paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of salt.
  • In another shallow dish, place the beaten eggs.
  • In a third shallow dish, add the breadcrumbs or panko.
  1. Bread the Shrimp:
  • First, dredge each shrimp in the seasoned flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
  • Next, dip the shrimp in the beaten eggs, ensuring they’re coated.
  • Finally, coat the shrimp with the breadcrumbs or panko, pressing gently to help them stick.
  1. Heat the Oil:
  • In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  1. Fry the Shrimp:
  • Working in batches, fry the shrimp for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Be careful not to overcrowd the pan.
  • Use a slotted spoon to transfer the shrimp to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  1. Serve:
  • Serve the fried shrimp hot with lemon wedges and your choice of dipping sauce.
