- Tartar sauce or cocktail sauce (optional, for dipping)
Instructions:
- Prepare Shrimp:
- Pat shrimp dry with paper towels. Season with salt and pepper.
- Set Up a Breading Station:
- In one shallow dish, mix flour, cornmeal (if using), paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of salt.
- In another shallow dish, place the beaten eggs.
- In a third shallow dish, add the breadcrumbs or panko.
- Bread the Shrimp:
- First, dredge each shrimp in the seasoned flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
- Next, dip the shrimp in the beaten eggs, ensuring they’re coated.
- Finally, coat the shrimp with the breadcrumbs or panko, pressing gently to help them stick.
- Heat the Oil:
- In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the Shrimp:
- Working in batches, fry the shrimp for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Be careful not to overcrowd the pan.
- Use a slotted spoon to transfer the shrimp to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve:
- Serve the fried shrimp hot with lemon wedges and your choice of dipping sauce.
