Crockpot Barbecue Ribs

Making barbecue ribs in a Crockpot is a great way to get tender, flavorful ribs with minimal effort. Here’s a simple and delicious recipe for Crockpot BBQ Ribs:

Ingredients:

  • 2-3 pounds pork ribs (baby back or spare ribs)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce (your favorite brand or homemade)
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Ribs:
  • Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs if it’s still attached. This will help make the ribs more tender.
  • Cut the ribs into sections that will fit comfortably in your Crockpot.
  1. Season the Ribs:
  • In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper.
  • Rub this spice mixture all over the ribs, making sure they’re well coated.
  1. Sear the Ribs (optional but recommended):
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add the ribs and sear them for about 2-3 minutes on each side until nicely browned. This step adds extra flavor but can be skipped if you’re short on time.
  1. Prepare the Crockpot:
  • Place the ribs in the Crockpot. If needed, fit them in standing up, or cut them into smaller pieces to fit.
  • Pour the barbecue sauce over the ribs. If you like, you can mix the barbecue sauce with apple cider vinegar for a bit of tanginess.
  1. Cook the Ribs:
  • Cover the Crockpot and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, until the ribs are tender and easily pull away from the bone.
  1. Finish the Ribs (optional):
  • For a caramelized finish, preheat your oven’s broiler. Transfer the cooked ribs to a baking sheet lined with foil.
  • Brush with additional barbecue sauce and broil for 3-5 minutes, until the sauce is bubbly and slightly charred. Watch carefully to avoid burning.
  1. Serve:
  • Serve the ribs hot with your favorite sides, like coleslaw, baked beans, or cornbread.

Enjoy your tender and flavorful Crockpot barbecue ribs!
