Deep Dish Apple Crisp
Ingredients:
For the Filling:
- 6 cups apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
For the Crisp Topping:
- 1 cup old-fashioned oats
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the Filling:
- In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour. Toss until the apples are well coated. Transfer the mixture to a deep baking dish.
- Make the Crisp Topping:
- In another bowl, mix together oats, flour, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Pour in the melted butter and stir until crumbly.
- Assemble and Bake:
- Sprinkle the crisp topping evenly over the apple mixture. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
- Serve:
- Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
