Deep Dish Apple Crisp

Ingredients:

For the Filling:

  • 6 cups apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

For the Crisp Topping:

  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  1. Prepare the Filling:
  • In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour. Toss until the apples are well coated. Transfer the mixture to a deep baking dish.
  1. Make the Crisp Topping:
  • In another bowl, mix together oats, flour, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Pour in the melted butter and stir until crumbly.
  1. Assemble and Bake:
  • Sprinkle the crisp topping evenly over the apple mixture. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
  1. Serve:
  • Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
