- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional: 1/2 cup raisins or chocolate chips
Instructions:
- Preheat Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mix Dry Ingredients:
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in the Butter:
- Add the cold butter cubes to the dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. If using, fold in the raisins or chocolate chips.
- Shape the Scones:
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together. Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick circle.
- Cut into 8 wedges or use a round cutter to shape individual scones.
- Bake:
- Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Cool and Serve:
- Allow the scones to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them plain or with a bit of jam or cream!
Tips:
- For extra flavor, you can add a bit of lemon zest or cinnamon to the dough.
- Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
