Easy and Affordable Sweet Scones

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: 1/2 cup raisins or chocolate chips

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven:
  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  1. Mix Dry Ingredients:
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  1. Cut in the Butter:
  • Add the cold butter cubes to the dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  1. Combine Wet Ingredients:
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla extract.
  1. Mix Dough:
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. If using, fold in the raisins or chocolate chips.
  1. Shape the Scones:
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together. Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick circle.
  • Cut into 8 wedges or use a round cutter to shape individual scones.
  1. Bake:
  • Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  1. Cool and Serve:
  • Allow the scones to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them plain or with a bit of jam or cream!
