Ingredients:
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
- 1/2 cup sugar (for coating)
- 1 tsp cinnamon (for coating)
- Oil for frying
Instructions:
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a saucepan, combine 1 cup water, 1/2 cup butter, 1 tbsp sugar, and 1/4 tsp salt. Bring to a boil.
- Once boiling, remove from heat and stir in 1 cup flour until a dough forms.
- Add Eggs:
- Let the dough cool slightly, then beat in the eggs one at a time. Mix until smooth and add vanilla extract if using.
- Heat the Oil:
- In a deep skillet or pot, heat about 2 inches of oil over medium heat.
- Pipe the Churros:
- Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Once the oil is hot, pipe 4-6 inch strips into the oil, cutting them with scissors.
- Fry:
- Fry churros until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Coat:
- In a bowl, mix 1/2 cup sugar with 1 tsp cinnamon. Roll the warm churros in the mixture to coat.
- Serve:
- Enjoy your churros warm, with chocolate sauce or dulce de leche for dipping!
Tips for Success:
- Test Oil Temperature: To test if the oil is ready, drop a small piece of dough into it; it should sizzle and rise to the surface.
- Storage: Churros are best eaten fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for a day.
