Enhanced 3-Ingredient Apple Danish Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 sheets of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
  • 2 medium-sized apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for brushing)
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour (for dusting)
  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  1. Prepare the Apples:
  • Peel, core, and dice the apples into small cubes.
  • In a medium saucepan, add the diced apples and cook over medium heat with just enough water to cover the bottom of the pan. Cook for about 4 minutes, or until the apples are slightly softened.
  • Stir in the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon (if using). Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, then remove from heat and allow to cool.
  1. Prepare the Puff Pastry:
  • Lightly flour your work surface to prevent sticking. Unfold the puff pastry sheets and cut each sheet into 6 equal rectangles, resulting in 12 rectangles total.
  • Place 6 rectangles on the prepared baking sheet.
  1. Assemble the Danish:
  • Spoon a small portion of the cooled apple mixture onto the center of each of the 6 rectangles on the baking sheet.
  • Place a second rectangle of puff pastry on top of each filled rectangle. Use a knife or pastry cutter to make a few small slits in the top pastry to allow steam to escape.
  • Press the edges of each pastry together to seal, ensuring the apple filling stays inside.
  1. Add Finishing Touches:
  • Brush the tops of the pastries with a beaten egg to give them a golden finish.
  • Optionally, sprinkle a little granulated sugar on top of each pastry for added sweetness and crunch.
  1. Bake:
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the pastries are golden brown and puffed up.
  • Keep an eye on them towards the end to prevent over-browning.
  1. Cool and Serve:
  • Allow the apple Danish to cool on a wire rack for a few minutes.
  • Dust with powdered sugar if desired for a touch of sweetness and visual appeal.

Serving Suggestions:

  • Serve the Apple Danish warm, ideally fresh out of the oven.
  • Pair with a cup of coffee, tea, or a glass of milk for a delightful treat.
  • For an indulgent twist, top with a dollop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce.
  • Alternatively, serve with a side of fresh fruit or a simple green salad for a balanced meal.

Storage:

  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5 minutes to restore crispiness.

Enjoy your perfectly crispy, flavorful Apple Danish!
