Fried Bologna Sandwiches
Ingredients:
- 4 slices of bologna (preferably thick-cut)
- 4 slices of bread (white, wheat, or your favorite type)
- 2 tablespoons butter (or mayonnaise for spreading on the bread)
- 2 slices of cheese (American, cheddar, or your choice)
- Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, pickles, mustard, or ketchup
Instructions:
- Prepare the Bologna:
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat.
- Once hot, add the bologna slices. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until the edges are crispy and the bologna is heated through. If you like, you can make a small slit in the middle of each bologna slice to prevent it from curling up.
- Prepare the Bread:
- While the bologna is cooking, spread butter or mayonnaise on one side of each slice of bread.
- If you like, you can toast the bread in a separate skillet or toaster for a crunchier texture.
- Assemble the Sandwiches:
- Place the cooked bologna slices on the unbuttered side of one slice of bread.
- Top with a slice of cheese while the bologna is still hot so that the cheese melts slightly.
- Add any optional toppings such as lettuce, tomato, pickles, mustard, or ketchup.
- Top with the other slice of bread, buttered side up.
- Grill the Sandwich (Optional):
- To make the sandwich extra crispy, you can grill it. Heat a clean skillet over medium heat and add a little butter.
- Place the sandwich in the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
- Serve:
- Cut the sandwich in half if desired and serve hot.
