Fried Cabbage with Bacon, Onion, and Garlic
Ingredients:
- 1 medium head of cabbage, chopped
- 4 slices of bacon, chopped
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional)
- Red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
Instructions:
- Cook the Bacon:
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy. Remove the bacon and drain on paper towels, leaving the drippings in the skillet.
- Sauté the Onions:
- In the same skillet, add the sliced onion to the bacon drippings. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent.
- Add Garlic and Cabbage:
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute. Add the chopped cabbage, stirring well to combine. If needed, add a tablespoon of olive oil to help with cooking.
- Cook Until Tender:
- Season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and slightly caramelized.
- Combine and Serve:
- Return the cooked bacon to the skillet, mixing well. Serve warm as a side dish.
Tips:
- Variations: Add other vegetables like bell peppers or carrots for extra color and nutrition.
- Make it Vegetarian: Omit the bacon and use olive oil for cooking.
Enjoy your fried cabbage! 🥳✨
