Fried Cabbage with Bacon, Onion, and Garlic

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium head of cabbage, chopped
  • 4 slices of bacon, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional)
  • Red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Bacon:
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy. Remove the bacon and drain on paper towels, leaving the drippings in the skillet.
  1. Sauté the Onions:
  • In the same skillet, add the sliced onion to the bacon drippings. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent.
  1. Add Garlic and Cabbage:
  • Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute. Add the chopped cabbage, stirring well to combine. If needed, add a tablespoon of olive oil to help with cooking.
  1. Cook Until Tender:
  • Season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and slightly caramelized.
  1. Combine and Serve:
  • Return the cooked bacon to the skillet, mixing well. Serve warm as a side dish.

Tips:

  • Variations: Add other vegetables like bell peppers or carrots for extra color and nutrition.
  • Make it Vegetarian: Omit the bacon and use olive oil for cooking.

Enjoy your fried cabbage! 🥳✨
