Homemade Picadillo
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1 bell pepper, chopped (any color)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes
- 1/4 cup tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup green olives, sliced
- 1/4 cup raisins (optional)
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Fresh cilantro, for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Cook the Beef:
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and bell pepper, sautéing until softened. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
- Add Ground Beef:
- Stir in the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Add Tomatoes and Seasonings:
- Mix in the diced tomatoes (with juices), tomato sauce, olives, raisins, cumin, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
- Simmer:
- Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Serve:
- Garnish with fresh cilantro if desired. Serve with rice, beans, or warm tortillas.
