Homemade Picadillo

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped (any color)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup green olives, sliced
  • 1/4 cup raisins (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Beef:
  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and bell pepper, sautéing until softened. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  1. Add Ground Beef:
  • Stir in the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  1. Add Tomatoes and Seasonings:
  • Mix in the diced tomatoes (with juices), tomato sauce, olives, raisins, cumin, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
  1. Simmer:
  • Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  1. Serve:
  • Garnish with fresh cilantro if desired. Serve with rice, beans, or warm tortillas.
