Homemade Sweetened Condensed Milk
Ingredients:
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions:
- Combine Ingredients:
- In a medium saucepan, combine the whole milk and granulated sugar. Stir to combine.
- Heat Mixture:
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring constantly. Do not let it boil.
- Simmer:
- Once the mixture reaches a simmer, reduce the heat to low. Continue to cook and stir frequently for about 30-40 minutes. The mixture should reduce by about half and thicken to a syrupy consistency.

- Optional Vanilla:
- If using vanilla extract, stir it in now.
- Cool and Store:
- Allow the sweetened condensed milk to cool to room temperature. It will continue to thicken slightly as it cools.
- Transfer to a clean jar or airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
