Old Time Oven Peach Cobbler Recipe
Ingredients
For the Filling:
- 4 cups fresh or frozen peaches (sliced)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
For the Cobbler Topping:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the Peach Filling:
- In a large bowl, combine the peaches, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and cornstarch (if using). Mix well and set aside to let the juices meld.
- Make the Cobbler Topping:
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Stir until just combined (don’t overmix).
- Assemble the Cobbler:
- Pour the peach mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Spoon the cobbler batter evenly over the peaches. Do not stir; it will spread as it bakes.
- Bake:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the topping comes out clean.
- Serve:
- Let it cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
Tips
- Fresh vs. Frozen Peaches: If using frozen peaches, thaw and drain excess liquid before mixing with the sugar.
- Variations: Add a pinch of nutmeg for extra flavor or substitute some of the peaches with berries.
Enjoy your old-time oven peach cobbler, a perfect dessert for any occasion!
