Pioneer Woman’s Apple Dumplings

Ingredients:

For the Apple Dumplings:

  • 2 large apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and cut into wedges
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough (or use homemade dough if you prefer)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

For the Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  1. Prepare the Apples:
  • Peel, core, and cut the apples into wedges.
  1. Wrap the Apples:
  • Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into triangles.
  • Place a few apple wedges in the center of each dough triangle.
  • Sprinkle the apples with a little sugar and cinnamon.
  • Roll up each triangle, starting from the wide end and tucking the sides in, to form a small package around the apples.
  1. Prepare the Sauce:
  • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Stir in the sugar, water, and vanilla extract.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil and cook for 1-2 minutes, until the sugar is dissolved and the sauce is slightly thickened.
  1. Assemble and Bake:
  • Place the apple dumplings in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Pour the hot syrup over the dumplings, making sure they are well coated.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the dumplings are golden brown and the apples are tender.
  1. Serve:
  • Serve the apple dumplings warm, with some of the syrup spooned over the top.
  • For an extra treat, serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.

These Apple Dumplings are a classic comfort dessert with a rich, buttery sauce and tender apples wrapped in flaky dough. Enjoy!
