Pioneer Woman’s Apple Dumplings
Ingredients:
For the Apple Dumplings:
- 2 large apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and cut into wedges
- 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough (or use homemade dough if you prefer)
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
For the Sauce:
- 1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the Apples:
- Peel, core, and cut the apples into wedges.
- Wrap the Apples:
- Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into triangles.
- Place a few apple wedges in the center of each dough triangle.
- Sprinkle the apples with a little sugar and cinnamon.
- Roll up each triangle, starting from the wide end and tucking the sides in, to form a small package around the apples.
- Prepare the Sauce:
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Stir in the sugar, water, and vanilla extract.
- Bring the mixture to a boil and cook for 1-2 minutes, until the sugar is dissolved and the sauce is slightly thickened.
- Assemble and Bake:
- Place the apple dumplings in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Pour the hot syrup over the dumplings, making sure they are well coated.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the dumplings are golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Serve:
- Serve the apple dumplings warm, with some of the syrup spooned over the top.
- For an extra treat, serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
These Apple Dumplings are a classic comfort dessert with a rich, buttery sauce and tender apples wrapped in flaky dough. Enjoy!
