Ingredients
- 4 bone-in pork chops (about 1-inch thick)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 cup heavy cream (or milk for a lighter option)
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme (or fresh thyme, if available)
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon flour (optional, for thickening)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the Pork Chops:
- Season the pork chops generously with salt and pepper on both sides.
- Sear the Pork Chops:
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the pork chops and sear for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove the chops from the skillet and set aside.
- Sauté the Onions and Garlic:
- In the same skillet, add the butter. Once melted, add the sliced onions and sauté until they are softened and translucent (about 5 minutes). Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Make the Sauce:
- Pour in the chicken broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Stir in the heavy cream, thyme, paprika, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer.
- Return the Chops:
- Return the seared pork chops to the skillet. If you prefer a thicker sauce, you can sprinkle the flour over the mixture and stir to combine. Let the mixture simmer for about 15-20 minutes, until the pork chops are cooked through and tender.
- Serve:
- Once the pork chops are done, serve them with the creamy onion sauce spooned over the top. Garnish with fresh parsley.
Tips
- Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or crusty bread to soak up the delicious sauce.
- You can add other vegetables, like mushrooms or bell peppers, to the sauce for extra flavor.
Enjoy your smothered pork chops!
