Street Tacos de Carne Asada
Ingredients:
For the Carne Asada:
- 1 1/2 pounds flank steak or skirt steak
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons lime juice
- 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
For the Tacos:
- Corn tortillas (8-10)
- Diced onion
- Chopped cilantro
- Lime wedges
- Salsa or hot sauce (optional)
Instructions:
- Marinate the Steak:
- In a bowl, whisk together olive oil, soy sauce, lime juice, orange juice, garlic, cumin, chili powder, black pepper, salt, and red pepper flakes.
- Place the steak in a resealable bag or shallow dish and pour the marinade over it. Marinate for at least 1 hour (up to overnight in the fridge for more flavor).
- Cook the Steak:
- Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Remove the steak from the marinade and let excess marinade drip off.
- Grill the steak for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness. Let it rest for a few minutes before slicing.
- Prepare the Tacos:
- Warm the corn tortillas on the grill or in a skillet. Slice the carne asada into thin strips.
- Assemble the tacos by placing a few strips of steak on each tortilla. Top with diced onion and chopped cilantro.
- Serve:
- Serve the tacos with lime wedges and your favorite salsa or hot sauce on the side.
Tips:
- Toppings: Add avocado slices or queso fresco for extra flavor.
- Side Dishes: Serve with a side of Mexican rice or refried beans.
