Baked Apple Fritters

Ingredients

For the Fritters:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups peeled and diced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1/2 cup toasted pecans or walnuts, chopped (optional)

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2–3 tbsp milk (adjust for desired consistency)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2: Prepare the Batter

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk the melted butter, eggs, milk, and vanilla extract.
  3. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  4. Fold in the diced apples and nuts (if using).

Step 3: Shape the Fritters

  1. Using a large spoon, scoop about 1/4 cup of batter for each fritter and place it onto the prepared baking sheet. Slightly flatten and shape them into rustic rounds. Leave some space between fritters.

Step 4: Bake

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15–18 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the fritters cool slightly on the baking sheet.

Step 5: Glaze the Fritters

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon until smooth.
  2. Drizzle the glaze over the warm fritters using a spoon or dip the tops of the fritters into the glaze for a more thorough coating.
  3. Allow the glaze to set for a few minutes before serving.

Serving Suggestions

  • Serve warm with a cup of coffee, tea, or cider.
  • Add a dusting of powdered sugar for an extra decorative touch.
