Dinner Rolls

Ingredients:

For the Dough:

  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F/43°C)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 ½ to 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg

For the Topping:

  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing the rolls)
  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional, for extra sweetness)

Instructions:

1. Activate the Yeast:

  • In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top, and stir until dissolved. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.

2. Make the Dough:

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, salt, and egg. Add the activated yeast mixture and stir to combine.
  • Gradually add the flour, ½ cup at a time, stirring until a soft dough forms.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 6-8 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. You can also use a stand mixer with a dough hook for this step.

3. First Rise:

  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

4. Shape the Rolls:

  • Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and place them in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Arrange the rolls closely together so they rise upwards.

5. Second Rise:

  • Cover the dish with a clean kitchen towel and let the rolls rise for about 30-45 minutes, or until doubled in size.

6. Bake:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Bake the rolls for 15-18 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top.

7. Brush with Butter:

  • Remove the rolls from the oven and immediately brush the tops with melted butter for a soft, glossy finish. You can drizzle honey over the rolls for a touch of sweetness if desired.

8. Serve:

  • Let the rolls cool slightly before serving. They’re perfect on their own or with butter, jam, or honey!

Tips:

  • Make-Ahead Option: You can prepare the dough and let it rise in the fridge overnight. Shape and bake the rolls the next day.
  • Flavor Variations: Add garlic powder or herbs like rosemary for a savory twist, or sprinkle cheese over the rolls before baking for a cheesy crust.
  • Freezing: These rolls freeze well—just wrap them tightly in plastic wrap after they’ve cooled, and reheat them in the oven before serving.

Enjoy your Delicious Dinner Rolls—perfectly soft, golden, and melt-in-your-mouth good! 🍞✨
