Beer Cheese Dip with Sausage in Puff Pastry Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Beer Cheese Dip:

  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • 1 cup beer (lager or ale works well)
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

For the Sausage in Puff Pastry:

  • 1 package (about 17.3 oz) frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 8-10 sausage links (cocktail sausages or small sausages)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Beer Cheese Dip

  1. Make a Roux:
  • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk constantly for about 1 minute to form a roux.
  1. Add Beer:
  • Gradually whisk in the beer, making sure to remove any lumps. Continue to cook until the mixture is smooth and starts to thicken, about 3-5 minutes.
  1. Add Cheese:
  • Reduce the heat to low and stir in the cheddar and Gruyère cheeses until completely melted and smooth.
  1. Season:
  • Stir in the Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Adjust seasoning to taste. Keep warm on low heat, stirring occasionally.

Step 2: Prepare the Sausage in Puff Pastry

  1. Preheat Oven:
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  1. Prepare Puff Pastry:
  • Unroll the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut the pastry into small squares, large enough to wrap around each sausage.
  1. Wrap Sausages:
  • Place a sausage in the center of each puff pastry square and fold the pastry over to wrap the sausage completely. Press the edges to seal.
  1. Brush with Egg Wash:
  • Place the wrapped sausages seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with the beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
  1. Bake:
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and puffed.

Step 3: Serve

  1. Serve Warm:
  • Serve the warm beer cheese dip with the sausage pastries. Enjoy dipping the sausages into the creamy beer cheese!

Tips:

  • Cheese Selection: You can substitute the cheeses with your favorites or what you have on hand.
  • Beer Choice: A mild beer works best for a balanced flavor, but feel free to use your preferred type.

This Beer Cheese Dip with Sausage in Puff Pastry makes a great appetizer or party snack with a combination of creamy, cheesy dip and flaky, savory pastries. Enjoy!
