Better Than Anything Toffee

“Better Than Anything Toffee” is a decadent dessert that combines a buttery toffee base with a rich layer of chocolate and a sprinkle of nuts. It’s incredibly indulgent and perfect for special occasions or as a treat. Here’s a classic recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup crushed nuts (such as pecans, walnuts, or almonds)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. Prepare a Baking Sheet:
  • Line a 9×13-inch baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper. This will help you easily lift the toffee out after it’s set.
  1. Make the Toffee:
  • In a medium saucepan, combine the butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and water. Place over medium heat, stirring constantly until the butter is melted and the sugar is dissolved.
  • Once the mixture begins to boil, stop stirring and let it boil for about 5-7 minutes, or until it reaches 300°F (150°C) on a candy thermometer. This is known as the hard crack stage.
  1. Pour and Cool:
  • Immediately pour the hot toffee mixture onto the prepared baking sheet, spreading it into an even layer with a spatula. Let it cool for about 5 minutes, or until it’s slightly set but still warm.
  1. Add Chocolate:
  • Sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the warm toffee. Allow the chocolate to melt for a few minutes, then spread it into an even layer with a spatula.
  1. Add Nuts:
  • Sprinkle the crushed nuts over the melted chocolate, pressing them gently into the chocolate to help them stick.
  1. Cool and Set:
  • Let the toffee set at room temperature or refrigerate it for about 30 minutes to 1 hour, until the chocolate is fully set and the toffee is firm.
  1. Break into Pieces:
  • Once set, lift the toffee out of the pan using the foil or parchment paper. Break into pieces and serve.

Optional: For added flavor, you can sprinkle a pinch of sea salt over the chocolate before it sets.
