Bread Rolls

Ingredients:

For the Bread Roll:

  • 6 slices of white or whole wheat bread (crusts removed)
  • 1 cup mashed potatoes (or any filling of your choice: veggies, paneer, chicken, etc.)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • ½ cup cooked peas (optional)
  • 1 green chili, finely chopped (optional, for spice)
  • ½ teaspoon garam masala (or your favorite spice blend)
  • ½ teaspoon cumin seeds
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon oil or butter (for the filling)
  • Water (to moisten the bread)

For Frying:

  • Oil for deep frying or pan-frying

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Filling:

  • Heat 1 tablespoon of oil or butter in a pan over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and let them sizzle.
  • Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden.
  • Stir in the turmeric powder, garam masala, and salt.
  • Add the mashed potatoes and peas (or other fillings) and mix well. Cook for 2-3 minutes to combine flavors. Set aside to cool.

2. Prepare the Bread:

  • Take one slice of bread and lightly moisten it with water using your fingertips. Be careful not to over-wet it; it should be just soft enough to roll.
  • Flatten the bread gently with a rolling pin.

3. Assemble the Rolls:

  • Place a small amount of the prepared filling in the center of the bread.
  • Fold the edges of the bread over the filling and gently roll it into an oval or cylindrical shape, sealing the edges firmly.

4. Cook the Rolls:

  • Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Once hot, carefully slide the bread rolls into the oil.
  • Fry until golden brown, turning occasionally to ensure even cooking. If you prefer a healthier option, you can brush the rolls with oil and bake them in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes or air-fry them.

5. Serve:

  • Remove the rolls from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with ketchup, mint chutney, or your favorite dip.

Tips:

  • Variations: Experiment with fillings like cheese, sautéed veggies, or even leftover curry.
  • Crispier Rolls: Chill the rolls in the refrigerator for 10 minutes before frying.

Enjoy your crispy, golden Bread Rolls—a perfect bite-sized delight! 🥔🍞✨
