Kentucky Butter Cake Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Cake:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup buttermilk, room temperature
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

For the Butter Sauce:

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions:

For the Cake:

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). Grease and flour a 10-inch Bundt pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
  3. Add the buttermilk, butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared Bundt pan and smooth the top.
  5. Bake for 60-70 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes.

For the Butter Sauce:

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar, butter, and water. Stir until the butter is melted and the sugar is dissolved. Do not boil.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

Finishing the Cake:

  1. While the cake is still in the pan, use a skewer or toothpick to poke holes all over the cake.
  2. Slowly pour the butter sauce over the cake, allowing it to soak in.
  3. Let the cake cool completely in the pan before inverting it onto a serving plate.
